RE: Taking the grade into account

I always look to go over the worst grade as it seems to be the best drive. We have plenty of flat deserts out here that are just flat bordom. Just so there are places to fill up I don't worry about fuel.

RE: Aux start switch and Magnetek 6345 converter

That kit you linked is for a WFCO converter ....
I didn't know Progressive Dynamics built or sold WFCO converters. :h
The PD4545 or PD4655 should be an excellent replacement if you have wet cell batteries, ok if you have AGM and not good for gel due to different voltage requirements. You can probably buy one through bestconverter.com.
One of the other things I was thinking of doing was upgrading/changing the converter which is a Magnetex 6345. Is the Magnetek 6300/7300 Upgrade Kit worth the price or should I look to replacing the unit with another manufactures unit.
If you open the link the OP gave it goes to Bestconverter and the picture clearly says World Friendship CO. (WFCO)
The only reason I referred to it is because the first two responses said to get a three stage converter and that is exactly what the OP linked to. I did not want the OP to think his example was not a three stage converter.
Cheers. :)

RE: Anyone had problems with State Farm Insurance Claims

I got out of State Farm more than 20 years ago because of some nonsense dispute.
I recently had a State Farm insured person hit me and while it was determined to be not my fault they refused to pay unless by court order. I can not believe people still insure with them.

RE: Aux start switch and Magnetek 6345 converter

That kit you linked is for a WFCO converter and will work well. Bestconverter also sells PD9200 & Xantrex XADC conversion kits. I think most like these above the WFCO. MY OEM WFCO works great but if I was spending money I would get the Xantrex XADC. For one or two batteries the 40 amp should be fine.
The kit shown just above might be the easiest and should work excellent.
To float the chassis battery get a Trik-L-Start combiner that will keep the batteries separate unless the house battery is charging it will also float charge the chassis battery. Bestconverter sell this also.

RE: Parallax/Magnetek 7345 Shut Off Switch

The converter probably shares a circuit with the fridge or some string of outlets. Unplug completely and take the cover off so you can see the actal wires. Find the wire to the converter and disconnect it. But no there is probably not any separate switch to just turn off the 7345.
Why are you turning it off? I honstly thing the best thing for a 7345 is to just replace it.

I would get an outdoor inlet and wire it to a standard connector on the inside wall. Make sure it is rated for the full power of the generator.

RE: Gear Change 1997 GMC Yukon

Gear ratios have nothing to do with emissions. if they did the manuf. wouldn`t offer the different ratios they do! the PCM programing in a vehicle with 3.55 gears is the same as a one with 4.30`s. the engine just operates at a different rpm.
Technically incorrect. If you're RPMs are increased at a given speed, your emissions will also increase. They have to.
Emissions testing for the public is based on Parts Per Million of hydrocarbons and NOx and % of CO in the exhaust. While the vehicle may emit more total exhaust the ratio or concentration of pollutants measured does not necessarily increase.
I understand new car development testing is different in that all exhaust is captured and total pollutant per mile is measured. The low gears would probably hurt this type of testing just as you said. But again secondary testing of the cars on the road are not tested like this.

RE: I need some electrical assistance

I would try a different outlet first, non GFI preferred.
Or turn off all breakers and plug back in. Turn on the main RV breaker. Then turn on one breaker at a time and operate what is on the circuit. each time you tun on a breaker check the GFI. This should isolate what circuit is the trouble.
Post the results.

RE: Help with 12 volt solution

The 2000 watt inverter you listed has a built in transfer switch rated 30 amps and could pretty much run the entire RV. It does not seem like that is what you need.
You need to decide how many watts you need. For multiple games and tv/dvd you probably only need 400 to 600 watts.
If you want to save money you will need to go with modified sine wave. I recommend sine wave but either will work. Some digtal controls and clocks have trouble with MSW and I have observed power bricks seem to run hotter.
You can buy a separate transfer switch and avoid a big honking inverter to get a transfer switch rated for the power needed when plugged into utility power.
If you use the existing distribution system and wiring, it is best to isolate the loads that are wasteful or will over power the inverter. You do not want to power the converter, fridge, water heater, microwave, air conditioner with a small or mid size inverter.
You can put the transfer switch before the distribution panel and turn these items off manually. But to use them with the generator you would need to turn them on so there is a bit of management that I sense will not go over well.
Or you can have the transfer switch after the main panel. If you can get by on one string of outlets that is easier. Most RVs have two or more stings of outlets. If you want them all you may need to add a sub panel. This set up avoids all the power management and only powers what is supposed to be powered.
With a WFCO converter I don't think you need to spend money on an inverter/charger. You just need an inverter.
A 600w samlex $257 and a 30 amp WFCO transfer relay $78 is the main equipment you need. Subpanel with breakers you can get at Home Depot etc.
Keep the 12 volt connection short and fat and the 120 volt connection can be longer. You may find you need one or two more batteries if you play a lot and want the furnace to run all night.

RE: Whats the best battery for my TT.

Should I charge with TV or generator.
Use the generator to power the converter. Now some converters are great and others are miserable. You will need to post make and model of your converter if you want to know how it will do.

RE: Repacking/replaceing your WW bearings/races/seals

Great info! I'll definitely look at getting a bearing repacker and the mobile 1 synthetic.
Thanks again sounds like it's pretty easy. Hopefully the manual will list the torque for the axle nut.
Jon
Mobil 1 and the hand packing tool is available at Pep Boys or your local autostore. That is what I use.
The spindle nut should be tightened just past finger tight, I use hand pliers. Spin the drum to check that all spins smoothly. Then back off the nut to the next spot to insert the retaining pin. If by chance it lines up when tight you need to back it off to the next slot. The spindle nut is not actually tight but needs to allow a small freeplay for the bearings to move and expand while in service.

RE: Alternative for Charging your Battery

Best is to have it built into your converter.
Typical conversion to XADC
It shows a 60 amp but you would be fine with a 40.
Xantrex XADC
My OEM converter is a WFCO with a lower float charge voltage and it works fine but if I was spending money I would get the Xantrex.
Oh and you still need to check the water no matter what the charger. Although adding about once a year is common with a good converter.

RE: I'm sitting in the dark and need your help!

With the battery connected you will have a day before is starts to go dead unless the converter is working. You need to have a way to check the voltage coming out of the converter. If the voltage is less than 13.4 you need to verify it is powered on. You probably just need a new converter.
I recommend a Xantrex XADC-40
Easy conversion to Xantrex
